Cooked Rice

On the stove
Ingredients
- 1 and ΒΌ of a cup of water for every cup of rice
- A dash of salt
In general, 1 cup of rice is a fairly standard serving size for a person
Directions
- Rince rice thoroughly with cold water. Aim to have the rice sufficiently clean that when you put it in the pot with water and push it around, the water doesn't get completely cloudy.
- Combine rice and water in a suitably sized pot on the stove
- Add salt
- Bring the water to a boil
- Reduce the heat to low and let sit for 7 minutes
- Remove the rice from the heat and let sit with no lid for 15 minutes
- Remove rice from the pot. If storing, put the rice in the fridge right away to ensure it stays fresh for longer
Notes
Cooking rice on the stove "well" is genuinely hard and subjective. You can tweak the numbers over time to figure out what works best for you.
In the slow cooker
Ingredients
- Twice as much water as rice
- A dash of salt
Directions
- Rince the rice
- Grease the inside of the slow cooker
- Add the rice to the slow cooker
- Bring the water to a boil, either on the stove or in a kettle
- Add the water to the slow cooker, adding a dash of salt
- Set the slow cooker to high heat (you can add ~3 hours of cooking time by setting it to low, in case you're going out all day)
- Let the rice cook for about 3 hours. You'll know it looks done when it looks plump.
